The 2014 Detroit auto show – officially titled the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) – will take place this January against a backdrop of strong US sales and higher sales and earnings at American carmakers.
The show will start with two press days – January 13 and 14 – and runs through January 26. Industry days are January 15 and 16 and there is a Charity Event scheduled for January 17. Singer Sheryl Crow will perform in the evening.
At least 18 automakers are expected to unveil new models in Detroit, as the North American car market continues to grow. Analysts expect US sales this year of close to 16 million vehicles and a higher number for 2014. In November, the three US brands – Ford, GM and Chrysler – each posted a double-digit unit-sales increase.
Automakers are planning to display more than 500 vehicles at the Detroit show as they hope to benefit from the upward trend in demand for new cars.
Visitors to the 2014 show will be among the first to see the results of a 279 million-dlr upgrade of the downtown Cobo Center, where the exhibition traditionally takes place.
In 2013, the Detroit show featured 71 vehicle debuts, of which 61 were global novelties. The show was attended by 795,416 visitors.
