In 2017, the Detroit Auto Show is adding another day to the events schedule, focusing on new mobility and high-tech startups.
The show, which holds two press days Monday, January 9, will open its Automobili-D exhibition on Sunday, January 8. The show will feature displays from 50 global startups that are developing products for tomorrow’s auto industry.
“The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is the first auto show to feature a dedicated startup expo featuring companies from around the world that are tackling every aspect of future automotive mobility,” NAIAS Chairman Sam Slaughter said in a press briefing.
The world’s biggest auto shows are all adding new-mobility showcases to their events schedules. The Los Angeles Show in November hosted “Automobility,” which hosted a range of high-tech companies demonstrating their automotive technologies.
The Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2017 is also planning a a dedicated new-mobility hall.
Detroit’s Automobili-D includes a keynote address on Sunday by John Krafcik, CEO of Google’s self-driving car project.
The auto show will, as usual, have two industry days immediately after the press days. These will be followed by a charity preview January 13. The show opens to the public January 14 and runs through January 22.
